My one-word resolution for 2022

I’ve been struggling to write New Year’s Resolutions this year, so instead I’ve picked one word to live by. Which is what I did last year, and I really liked it.

My word of 2021 was ‘inspired’, and I leaned into that word all year by reading, writing, learning, unlearning, traveling, and connecting with friends and mentors. It was a year of meaningful growth and I wanted 2022 to build on that.

So, my word of the year for 2022 is fearless. I actually didn’t pick this word on my own, it was spoken over me in high school, and I’ve held onto it for this very moment.

I was very active in church and in our youth group in high school. One of our leaders was the mom of two of my peers. Her name is Liz Nead (website), and she’s an extraordinary woman. Liz is a speaker, coach, an Amazon best-selling author, and I was lucky enough to hear her share her wisdom with a bunch of teenagers. 😊

There was one night that Liz and I were paired for an activity and, at the end of it, she held my hands and prayed aloud that I would be fearless. That stumped me at the time. I revisited that memory so many times over the last 9-10 years wondering what that meant, until finally I realized that fearless doesn’t mean you’re not afraid, it means you live your truth and stand for what’s right, even when it’s hard.

This is the year I take what I’ve learned about myself, and the world, and get out of my comfort zone. I will do the hard things I wouldn’t have attempted before, have hard conversations, stand up for myself, and stop worrying so much about what others might think of me.

Cheers to 2022!
